The Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA) cooperated with Informa Markets/SES Vietnam to open the VIETWATER 2021 exhibition and the conference "Water supply solutions for the Mekong Delta to adapt to climate change" in the online form. Ms.Mai Thi Lien Huong emphasized that “the Vietnam Government in general and the Ministry of Construction in particular are particularly interested in researching and finding solutions for sustainable water supply for the Mekong Delta region, because this area is extremely suffered by climate change and sea level rise. Ministry of Construction also considered building inter-regional centralized clean water supply systems and considering this as one of the important and long-term solutions to cope with the risk of drought, saltwater intrusion, floods, ensuring clean water sources for people's daily life and production activities.

The contribution and support of experts, scientists, domestic and international organizations have contributed to improve the efficiency of state management in the field of water supply and drainage in Vietnam. Many countries such as Hungary, Taiwan, Australia, Finland, Germany, and Japan have actively supported Vietnam through financial support, experience exchange, transferring of scientific and technological advances.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Diep - Chairman of the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association said: “In recent years, Vietnam's water industry has achieved many important achievements, contribute to promoting the implementation of socio-economic development goals of the country. Urban water supply reached about 10.6 million m3/day; the rate of water supply for people in urban areas was over 89% and 88.5% of people in rural areas. Currently, nationwide, there are 71 wastewater treatment plants have been building and operating in more than 50 cities and 78 urban drainage and wastewater treatment projects are being designed and constructed.

However, Vietnam's water industry is also facing many challenges related to population growth, rapid urbanization, environmental pollution, limitation in operating capacity of water enterprises and Covid-19 epidemic.

The whole event

VIETWATER 2021 is organized to support and promote Vietnamese water enterprises to sustainability develop. Within the framework of the event, there are some seminars on 3 topics: Water supply solutions for the Mekong Delta to adapt to climate change; Drainage, wastewater treatment and control of urban flooding and inundation to adapt to climate change; Digital transformation of the water sector in Vietnam.

At the seminar "Water supply solutions for the Mekong Delta to adapt to climate change", experts from domestic and international organizations presented many presentations and actively discussed many practical contents relating to solutions of water supply planning in the Mekong Delta; impacts of non-traditional security on water resources of the Mekong Delta; Australia's experience on water security in the context of climate change...

The exhibition VIETWATER 2021 takes place from November 10 to 12, 2021.
