Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan Yamada Takio on November 4th, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Construction with the presence of Deputy Chief Representative of JICA Office in Vietnam; leaders of Departments and Agencies under the Ministry of Construction.

Ambassador Yamada Takio sincerely thanked Minister Nghi for warmly welcome and shared: Japan highly appreciated the cooperation relationship Vietnam – Japan. This was reflected through by a bilateral meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sidelines of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Change climate (COP26).

The Ambassador expressed his wish to continually strengthen information exchange and cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of construction, specifically in urban planning and smart urban projects, adapting to climate change, urban technical infrastructure, especially in terms of water supply and drainage, recycling of construction waste.

Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi expressed his delight at the strong and extensive development of the Vietnam - Japan strategic partnership in many fields.

The Ministry of Construction and Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MILT) signed a 3-year Memorandum of Understanding (May 31, 2018 - May 31, 2021) in order to establish an effective cooperation relationship between the two ministries in implementing activities related to the fields of building a national legal framework, formulating and implementing policies related to construction sector; implementing of ecological urban projects in Vietnam; drainage and wastewater treatment; methods of cost estimation, labor safety management, quality management related to construction activities...

Currently, the Ministry of Construction and MLIT have also discussed the signing of the extension of the cooperation minutes between two ministries and organization of the fourth Deputy Ministerial Meeting. However, due to the complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic, this cannot be done.

The Ministry of Construction wishes that two sides continually strengthen to exchange information and share experiences in state management in the field of construction; support the activities of the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN); support the formulation of legal documents on urban development; promote human resource training on urban development management; green growth urban development, smart city; develop sustainable technical infrastructure to respond to climate change.

Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi said that he would direct units under the MoC to promote cooperation with Japanese partners. The Ministry of Construction would pay attention and create favorable conditions to support Japanese enterprises in investing and developing projects in Vietnam.

The Minister wishes that the Japanese Embassy and JICA will continue to cooperate and support the Ministry of Construction in upcoming projects.
