Singaporean businesses share experience in developing factory workers’ housing

Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi had an online meeting with Sakae Corporate Advisory, Surbana Jurong and a number of Singaporean businesses on a proposal to pilot the model industrial urban and worker housing development based to Singapore's experience. Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh and leaders of functional departments and agencies under MoC attended the online meeting.

Siah Gim Lim, Senior Vice President of Singaporean consultancy company Surbana Jurong, said the island country is piloting the transformation of existing industrial parks into worth-living industrial cities which comprise not only hi-tech industrial areas but also residential buildings, schools, office and commercial buildings and amusement parks, providing all kinds of services to residents. From the Singapore’s experiences, Mr. Siah Gim Lim proposed that Vietnam researched, deployed and applied industrial urban models implemented by Sakae Corporate Advisory and Surbana Jurong Company in Vietnam with the form and model suitable for each locality.

Jason Poh, Chairman of Centra Group, said most workers’ housing projects in Singapore were built near production zones at industrial parks, offering all necessary technical, social infrastructure and urban services so any COVID-19 outbreaks can be quickly zoned off and contained without effecting workers’ life and production.

Representative of joint venture Sakae Consulting Company and Surbana Jurong Consulting Company, Ms. Vo Thi Tuan Anh - President of Sakae Vietnam proposed the Ministry of Construction to consider and pilot model of 4.0 industrial integrated development planning in provincial planning projects, economic zone planning, zoning planning in some localities of Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi said the Ministry of Construction pays particular attention to building housing for specialists and workers at industrial parks.

The Minister assigned the units under the Ministry to coordinate with the consulting units of Singapore to propose and advise the leaders of the Ministry of Construction in researching and developing the industrial urban model in Vietnam, especially for the Central region, in order to orient appropriate spatial planning for best exploitation of its potentials.

Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi suggested that Singaporean partners and businesses actively participated in researching and proposing accommodation models for workers, first of all in Singapore's industrial parks in Vietnam. Ministry of Construction always welcomes and appreciates Singapore's cooperation with Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Construction in particular, looking forward the more effective and better cooperation in the coming time.
