On November 23, 2023, in Da Nang city, the Academy of Managers for Construction and Cities (Ministry of Construction) coordinated with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) to organize a pilot training course on sustainable urban development within the framework of the project "Strengthening institutions and building capacity for urban development in Vietnam" (ISCB Project) funded by the Swiss Federal Bureau of Economic Affairs ( SECO).
Pilot training course on sustainable urban development in Da Nang
There were experts, lecturers of AMC, leaders and experts from departments, branches, districts, cities and towns directly under the Danang city and Thua Thien Hue province. The program has the following main contents: overview of Sustainable Development Goals, new urban agenda towards sustainable urban development; key messages about modules; integrated planning in sustainable urban development; Local economic development associated with sustainable urban development orientation; develop housing suitable for affordability; creating a civilized, modern, and richly identified urban space; consensus among stakeholders in sustainable urban development. During the course, lecturers and learners will exchange and discuss the above contents.
The ISCB project is implemented in the 5-year period 2020-2025. In particular, UN-Habitat is responsible for technical support and overall coordination of project implementation. The Ministry of Construction plays the role of project managing agency, the AMC is assigned by the Ministry of Construction to be the project owner; The Urban Development Department (under the Ministry of Construction) and the Planning Management Department (under the Ministry of Planning and Investment) are the co-implementing units the project.
Overview of training course
With the aim to enhancing the institutional and technical capacity of national and local governments to promote sustainable urban development, the Project will provide capacity building programs and technical assistance that are suitable and practical for cities; support to change the thinking of leaders and staffs in strategic investment planning and decision making. The project also contributes to strengthening the policy and legal framework for urban planning and management with people's participation.
