AFD has been operating in Vietnam since 1994 and has committed more than 1.6 billion euros for 79 projects in Vietnam. Today, AFD's priority orientation and strategy in Vietnam is "100% for the Paris Agreement - 100% for social cohesion", with the following target groups: improving resilience ability of cities and localities before climate change; energy conversion, said Mr. Herve Conan.
Vietnam is currently facing many challenges from climate change and sea level rise. Therefore, AFD wishes to contribute its experience in building and perfecting institutions and policies in the field of urban development and together with the Ministry of Construction to help Vietnamese cities improve resilience and adaptability to climate change. AFD proposes to work with the MoC in studying and signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the two sides in the near future.
Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi agreed with the orientations of AFD in Vietnam, especially, in the context of Vietnam was heavily affected by climate change and sea level rise.
Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi agreed with AFD’s proposal to study and sign a memorandum of cooperation between the Ministry of Construction and AFD, and would assign relevant units of the Ministry to discuss and agree with AFD on cooperation contents between two sides.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi hoped that in the coming time, AFD would continue to pay attention to and help Vietnam in developing green cities and cities to adapt to climate change; supported the Ministry of Construction to improve the capacity of building and perfecting institutions and policies in the field of urban development, replicating the climate change adaptation urban model to localities across the country.
