The 39th session of the Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernmental Committee (UBLCP) was held in the online form on December 28th 2021 with the co-chair of the Vietnamese Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi and Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca Diaz, Co-Chairman of Cuba – Vietnam Intergovernmental Committee.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi emphasised that cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba has been maintained in 2021, despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The bilateral trade value hit US$105 million over the first 11 months of 2021, up 2 percent compared to the same period last year. Viet Nam has made efforts in maintaining rice export to Cuba, helping the nation to ensure food security and social stability.
The two sides reviewed cooperation results achieved in 2021 and agreed on cooperation contents in 2022. Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi shared with otherside on the Vietnamese economic and social situation in 2021. Based on the content of the agreed agreement, in 2022, the two sides jointly will continue to promote its cooperation in key priority areas with its strengths that the two sides have the same interest and in need.
Within the official visit to Cuba by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc last September, ministries, agencies and businesses of the two countries signed many important cooperation agreements, covering economy, fisheries, health care, cyber security, justice, hotels and clean energy.
Based on the content of the agreed Minutes, in 2022, the two sides determined to continue promoting cooperation in key priority areas and those of strength, mutual interest and needs. Specifically, the Health Ministries of the two countries will enhance cooperation in the supply and transfer of the COVID-19 vaccine production technology in Vietnam. The Ministry of Construction of the two countries will increase sharing of experiences in formulating legal policies, creating favorable conditions for businesses of the two sides to effectively implement trade and investment cooperation projects.
At this meeting, the two sides signed the Minutes of the 39th session of the Vietnam - Cuba UBLCP on economic and scientific and technical cooperation. In addition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and the Ministry of Culture of Cuba signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of culture, serving as a basis for expanding cultural cooperation activities of the two sides.

The two co-chairs of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee both affirmed that, with joint determination and efforts, the two sides will continue to cooperate closely and effectively in implementing cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding, making an important contribution to promoting socio-economic development in each country, as well as developing the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.
