On August 29-30, 2024, Minister Nguyễn Thanh Nghị led the Ministry of Construction delegation to visit and work in Hungary to exchange expertise in urban planning, construction, and architecture. This visit aimed to strengthen the Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and Hungary.
Promoting exchange and cooperation between the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam and the Ministry of Construction and Transport of Hungary.
On August 29th, the Delegation worked with Mr. Nándor Csepreghy, Deputy Minister of Construction and Transport of Hungary. The Delegation focused on learning and researching some experiences on legal regulations for the urban and rural planning system; supervision in the implementation of planning; coordination between local authorities and national agencies in managing urban and rural planning in accordance with the national orientation and strategy; the role of the Planning Advisory Council for local authorities; guidance and support for urban planning initiatives; the participation of non-governmental organizations and business associations in the establishment and management of urban and rural planning.

Deputy Minister Nándor Csepreghy expressed his joy to welcome Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi and the delegation. He also assessed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction and the Hungarian Ministry of Construction and Transport have quite similar functions and tasks. Therefore, two sides should cooperate in the fields of construction, urban planning and architecture. On that basis, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi assigned specialized units under the Ministry of Construction to coordinate and discuss with the Hungarian side about specific cooperation programs of the two sides in the coming time. At the end of the working session, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi and Deputy Minister Nándor Csepreghy both believed that, with the attention, close coordination and strong direction of the two ministries, in the coming time, the two sides will have favorable conditions to expand cooperation, making practical contributions to promoting the cooperative relationship between the two countries.
Strengthening the Vietnam - Hungary Comprehensive Partnership
On August 29th, the delegation also visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary. Minister Nguyễn Thanh Nghị expressed his satisfaction with the positive and comprehensive development of bilateral relations between Vietnam and Hungary, which was clearly marked by the upgrade of their relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership in September 2018. He attributed this achievement largely to the significant efforts and contributions of the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary.
Minister Nguyễn Thanh Nghị emphasized that the objective of this visit by the Ministry of Construction and the Economic Committee of the National Assembly to Hungary is to exchange experiences on legal frameworks concerning urban planning, construction, and architecture, thereby further strengthening the Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and Hungary.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thao, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Hungary, expressed her joy to welcome the delegation to visit and work. She affirmed that the Vietnamese community in Hungary has about 6,000 people and is on the rise. The Vietnamese community in Hungary mainly lives, works and studies in the capital Budapest and neighboring areas. Vietnamese people in Hungary mainly work in the fields of agriculture, food processing, construction, etc.
In addition to contributing to the economic development of the host country, the Vietnamese community in Hungary always looks towards the Fatherland, is an inseparable part of the great national unity bloc, plays the role of an important bridge, contributing to promoting the good traditional friendship between Vietnam and Hungary. Ambassador Nguyen Thi Bich Thao affirmed that the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary always accompanies, joins hands, and contributes to the Association of Vietnamese in Hungary and the Associations and Delegations of Vietnamese in Hungary to build a united and strongly developing community, contributing to promoting the Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and Hungary.
Vietnamese Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi works with First Vice President of the Hungarian Parliament Matrai Marta.
On the morning of August 30, 2024, Minister Nguyễn Thanh Nghị and the delegation paid a courtesy visit to Ms. Matrai Marta, First Vice President of the Hungarian Parliament. During the meeting, Ms. Matrai Marta expressed her heartfelt condolences to the Party, State, and people of Vietnam on the passing of General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng. Following the discussion of the visit's purpose and the outcomes of the meetings with Hungary’s Ministry of Construction and Transportation, Minister Nguyễn Thanh Nghị continued to address various aspects of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Hungary, particularly preparations for the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations in 2025.

In the afternoon of the same day, the delegation met with Mr. Tibor Navracsics, Hungary's Minister of Public Administration and Regional Development. During the meeting, Minister Nguyễn Thanh Nghị expressed his interest in learning from Hungary's experiences in urban and rural planning. In response, Minister Tibor Navracsics provided insights into Hungary's legal framework for managing planning, regional coordination, and regional development.
Based on the results of the meeting, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi proposed that the two Ministries continue to exchange information and experience in managing and developing the industry and pay attention to supporting substantive, practical, and effective cooperation between construction enterprises in both countries.
During this visit, the Ministry of Construction delegation also took the opportunity to survey and evaluate urban planning practices in Hungary and to explore several prominent architectural projects in Budapest.
