Dong Nai attracts USD140 million of FDI in January

The southern province of Dong Nai has attracted USD140 million of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) so far in 2014, according to the managing board of Dong Nai’s industrial zones.

Of this, four projects were newly licensed, valued at USD70 million, and 17 projects had increased capital worth USD70 million. The projects are related to high-technology and supporting industries.

In 2013, Dong Nai lured over USD1.6 billion of FDI capital and was among the top localities in FDI attraction. The figure included USD834 million from 78 newly-licensed projects and USD773 million from 73 existing projects.

So far, the province had over 1,380 licensed FDI projects, capitalised with over USD24 billion. Specifically, more than 1,000 projects are in effect, valued at USD20 billion and 314 projects had their licenses revoked, worth USD4.3 billion. Currently, 40 countries and territories have poured capital into Dong Nai, in which the leading investors are Taiwan (China), the Republic of Korea and Japan.

In 2014, Dong Nai is expected to lure USD700-900 million in FDI capital, with the focus on high-economic value projects and those developing green agriculture and applying bio-technology to agricultural production.

According to the Dong Nai Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Welfare, FDI businesses in the province need nearly 120,000 workers until 2015, of which 55 percent are trained workers./.
