Gov’t chief okays medical waste treatment program

The Prime Minister has approved a new program to treat 100% of toxic solid waste from hospitals by 2025.

The program targets to collect, classify and transport waste to treatment facilities.

Under the program, about 70% of waste will be treated in accordance with environment standards by 2015. By 2025, 100% of hospital waste will have been treated.

The forecast volume of solid waste by 2015 is around 50,071 kilos per day, and by 2025 will jump to 91,991 kilos.

Relevant agencies were asked to minimize solid waste at the source, enhance recycling and utilize innovate new environmentally friendly technologies.

According to the plan, there are three models for handling hazardous hospital solid waste including concentrated hazardous waste treatment facilities, hospital groups-based handling, and hospital facility-based handling./.
