Pham Van Quan is one of the 20 outstanding young scientists from around the world to win the Green Talents competition in Germany, according to the German embassy in Hanoi.

The postgraduate at the Hanoi Architecture University was chosen as one of the winners for his project ’Energy-saving Techniques to Mitigate Climate Change’.

Quan is now working on two projects at the Hanoi Architectural University and Tokyo University in Japan.

One of his projects focuses on developing a balanced system using water in Hanoi to cope with climate change, while the other one deals with sustainable water management in the Huong (Perfume) River and Hue city.

The panel of judges highly appreciated Quan for his knowledge and comprehensive approach to urban management, which concentrates on the relationship between water and energy. His research has revealed weaknesses and missing links in the urban systems and has provided necessary solutions for rapidly developing cities in Asia.

This year’s competition received entries from 331 young researchers in 58 nations and only 20 best projects were selected to receive the honour. Other awardees came from Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Colombia, Nigeria, Peru, Russia, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, and the USA.
