Hanoi : Over 85% rural population uses clean water

Over 85% of population in rural areas in Ha Noi has used clean water, according to the Municipal People’s Committee of Ha Noi.

As of 2012, the city housed 115 water stations and around 800 drilled wells. About 90% of schools have been supplied with clean water and sanitary toilets. The rates were 94% and 93% in medical clinics and markets, respectively.

Earlier, the Municipal People’s Committee of Ha Noi has assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to set up a plan on water supply and rural environment sanitation by 2020 and with a vision towards 2030.

Under the draft plan, by 2020, all rural residents will have access to clean water, of which 80% will use clean water with standards set by the Ministry of Health. Markets of all types will have tap water.

By 2030, all public places will have filthy water and sanitary toilets. Waste discharged from all craft villages will be treated.

Statistics show that in the Capital around 1,200 tons of waste are discarded every day and 11,153 tons of untreated animal waste are dumped directly to canals and sewages./.
