Awarding the Medal for the Cause of Construction to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam

On October 9, 2024, in Hanoi, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi - Co-Chairman of the Vietnam - Cuba Intergovernmental Committee chaired the ceremony to award the Medal for the Cause of Construction to Mr. Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam. Leaders of units under the Ministry of Construction, leaders of a number of enterprises cooperating and implementing projects in Cuba; experts and officials of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam attended the ceremony.

In his congratulatory remarks, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi acknowledged that Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen had successfully fulfilled his role as Ambassador for the period 2021–2024.

During his more than three years in Vietnam, the Ambassador had made significant contributions to enhancing and developing the longstanding cooperation between Cuba and Vietnam across various fields, including politics, diplomacy, and trade. Notably, he played a vital role in fostering economic, scientific, and technical collaboration within the framework of the Vietnam-Cuba Intergovernmental Committee (UBLCP).

Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen has actively coordinated in organizing high-level delegations, bilateral meetings, business forums and signing documents within the framework of visits by senior leaders of the two countries such as: the official visit to Vietnam by Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz in September 2022; the official visit to Cuba by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in April 2023; the official visit to Vietnam by Cuban President Esteban Lazo Hernández in September 2023, especially the official visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam in late September 2024.

During his tenure in Vietnam, Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen actively coordinated to successfully organize 3 Vietnam-Cuba Intergovernmental Committee and always closely cooperated with the MoC and relevant agencies in promoting cooperation between the two countries based on the strengths and potentials of each side, including cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, agriculture, science and technology which are strengths of Vietnam; and cooperation in the fields of biotechnology and medical biological vaccines which are strengths of Cuba.

In the field of construction, Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen has made significant contributions to promoting and developing specialized cooperation between the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam and the Ministry of Construction of Cuba through delegation exchanges at all levels, building and implementing cooperation projects, organizing of specialized conferences and seminars; supporting cooperation between the National Institute of Urban and Rural Planning of Vietnam and the Cuban Institute of Physical Planning to implement Government Protocol projects in the field of planning between the two countries.

On the occasion of the Ambassador's conclusion of his term in Vietnam, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi, on behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Construction, was pleased to present the Medal for the Cause of Construction to Mr. Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen. This award recognizes the Ambassador's significant contributions to the Vietnamese construction industry and the Vietnam-Cuba Joint Committee for Construction, playing a crucial role in promoting and developing the friendly, united, and traditional cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Cuba.

Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen assessed that the Ministry of Construction had consistently served as a vital pillar in fostering economic, trade, education and health cooperation between the two countries. With the attention and efforts of the Ministry's leadership and departments, both countries have achieved many important achievements in cooperation; successfully completed the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.

The Ambassador specifically thanked the Ministry of Construction and Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi for their efforts in urging, organizing, and effectively implementing the agreements and outcomes from the meetings of the Vietnam-Cuba Intergovernmental Committee; contributing to further develop the special cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Cuba.

Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen expressed his deep honor in receiving the Medal for the Construction Cause, which holds special significance for him personally.  Ambassador Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen also pledged to continue fostering and promoting the cooperative relationship between Vietnamese and Cuban enterprises.
