PM Nguyen Tan Dung has decided to recognize Phu Quoc Island in southern Kien Giang Province as the Grade II City.
The island is located on the Viet Nam-Cambodia-Thailand economic belt on the area of 589.23 km2 and the total population of 96,940 people with 10 administrative units.
Phu Quoc Island is considered as a crucial transportation hub, a scientific research center and a biodiversity conservation center of Viet Nam.
