The Vietnam – Australia Water Week 2021 co-hosted by the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA) and the Australia Water Association (AWA) in online form. Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung attended and spoke at the Opening Ceremony.

The Vietnam - Australia Water Week is an important event of Vietnam and Australia's water industry, taken place from September 15-17, 2021.  In a letter congratulating this event, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh wrote: “The supply of clean water, meeting the needs of daily life and people’s health is always the concern of the Vietnam Party and Government. This is an indicator to access the quality of life; is one of the important goals in socio-economic development of Vietnam and the sustainable development goal of the United Nations until 2030 that Vietnam commits to implement. On behalf of the Government of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh highly appreciates the Vietnam - Australia Water Week 2021 with the theme Water Security for Sustainable Development” to suit with the concern of countries in the world in general, the Vietnam Government and the Australian Government in particular, contributing to reducing poverty, improving the quality of life for the people, as a foundation for the other development goals of each country”.

The event brings together more than 370 members of VWSA and hundreds of Australian businesses; 22 presentations from Vietnamese speakers and 18 presentations from international speakers at five sessions including  Emerging Water Leaders Forum; Water Resilience Planning; Water Security for Sustainable Development: Policies and Water Supply Security; Enabling Private Sector Participation in Water; Unlocking Innovation in Delivering Safe, Secure, Sustainable and Efficient Water Services. At these forums, policy makers, experts, scientists, organizations and enterprises in the water sector of the two countries shared experiences, non-traditional security challenges, and useful solutions to minimize negative impacts and respond to difficulties and challenges in ensuring safe water supply services.

Australian Government Representative, Ms. Robyn Mudie - Australian Ambassador to Vietnam, said that despite the difficulties of the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was an opportunity for Vietnam and Australia towards a more sustainable the Water sector; an important foundation for further tightening trade relations and economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the Water sector. Ms. Robyn Mudie also expressed her belief that the water industry and water enterprises of both sides would be the key actors in promoting and strengthening the bilateral trade relationship between Vietnam and Australia in the future.

Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung warmly welcomed the event and thanked the Australian Government, the Australian Embassy to Vietnam for supporting the Australian Water Association and the Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association to co-organize this event in the context of the world in general, in Vietnam and Australia in particular facing with impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The event is a good opportunity for leaders of the Water sector of Vietnam and Australia to share share experiences, difficulties, challenges, solutions as well as development policy directions for sustainable water industry in the coming time; promoting cooperation of the water industry in general and water enterprises of Australia and Vietnam in particular; contributing to deepening cooperation between two countries in the spirit of cooperation agreed by the Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Australia; raising the two countries' relationship to the level of a strategic partnership to jointly solve global problems including safe water supply towards sustainable development, said Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung.

Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung suggested that through the event's forums, agencies, units and organizations would exchange, discuss and share ideas and solutions for smart water management to take advantage of the results of the Industrial Revolution 4.0; discussed appropriate policy orientations to help Vietnam and Australia soon achieve the development goals of the United Nations to 2030 on ensuring water supply, especially long-term and sustainable water supply solutions for areas frequently affected by climate change, such as the Mekong River in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung acknowledged, appreciated and thanked the Austrlian Government, the Australian Embassy to Vietnam, the Australian Water Association, agencies, organizations, scientists and businesses in the Water sector of both countries for supporting and positively contributing to the development of Vietnam's water industry. Deputy Minister Hung also wished to continue receiving support and sharing experiences with Vietnam in developing and promulgating the Law on Water Supply in the near future.
