More than 400 resilient houses presented to vulnerable coastal communities in Ca Mau Province
The houses were built in 23 coastal communes and towns in the districts of Tran Van Thoi, U Minh, Dam Doi, Nam Can, and Phu Tan.
The construction and hand-over of the houses were implemented under a project on improving the resilience to climate change related impacts among vulnerable coastal communities in Vietnam.
The project in Ca Mau is co-hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Construction, and the Ca Mau Provincial People’s Committee.
While hailing the project for providing local poor households with safe homes, Vice Chairman Su expressed his hope that the sponsoring organisations will continue to assist poor households in stabilising their lives and ensuring safety during natural disasters.
The project includes three components: providing support for building storm- and flood-resistant houses, planting mangroves, and providing disaster risk data information.
The project was carried out in the provinces of Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Binh, Thua Thien - Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Ca Mau from 2017 to July 2024. It aimed to build 4,000 safe houses to benefit 20,000 poor people who are heavily affected by natural disasters.
To date, the project has exceeded the set target with a total of 4,966 houses having been built.
