Son La province improves housing for 23,800 poor families

Since 2009, during the implementation of the Prime Minister’s program on improving housing for the poor, the northern province of Son La has helped nearly 23,800 poor ethnic minority families improve their housing, contributing to stabilize their lives.

According to the Son La provincial People’s Committee, since the beginning of the year, the houses of some 3,200 poor families in remote areas have been replaced with adequate ones.

The province plans to assist another 2,800 poor, ethnic minority families in the final months of 2012 so that they will have new houses to welcome the traditional lunar New Year.

So far VND366 billion has been collected for the program, of which VND221.743 billion comes from the central budget, VND127.385 billion from loans of the Bank for Social Policies, nearly VND17 billion mobilized from agencies, enterprises, union and the communities.

Each poor family has been assisted from VND7.2 million to VND8.4 million from the program.

The Son La provincial People’s Committee is asking localities to complete the disbursement of capital./.
