Commercial and joint stock banks have teamed up in providing the Mekong Delta with VND 1.8 trillion to implement social welfare projects in 2008-2013.

The money was used for building houses for disadvantaged families, schools, medical stations and supporting pupils and students in remote areas with scholarships.

Earlier, during 2008-2012, the banks sponsored more than VND 1.31 trillion for the region, making up nearly 40% of the total funding.

In 2013, the banking system in the Mekong Delta dispersed nearly VND 500 billion for social welfare works in 13 provinces and cities in the region, accounting for more than 30% of the nation’s funding.

The financial assistance has also helped the region realize the Government’s guidelines on social welfare and poverty reduction effectively.
