Hanoi approves 37 major projects for the 2011-2015 period

On December 8th, the Hanoi People’s Council decided to approve 37 major investment projects for the 2011-2015 period, managed by the city, with a total capital of more than VND 147 trillion. Of these, 31 projects are expected to be completed with a capital of nearly VND 130 trillion.

In addition, there are five major projects on the environment, nine projects related to culture and society, five projects on agricultural development, two projects building infrastructure for science-technology development and two projects involved with security and administrative reform.

Of the total investment projects, there are 14 major transport projects which are crucial to solve traffic jams, of which some are railway projects. These include the pilot Hanoi urban railway route (the Nhon – Hanoi Station section), the pilot Hanoi urban railway route 2 (the South Thang Long – Trang Hung Dao section) and the sky-train across the belt 2 (the Vinh Tuy Bridge – Vong Intersection – So Intersection section).

The municipal people’s council also agreed to give the nod to two target programmes of the city during the 2011-2015 period. These are the traffic jam curbing programme and the information and technology application programme in state organisations. Moreover, investment aims, content and mechanism of 16 national projects in the city were approved by the council. Of these, there are 13 transport projects, two projects on training and science-technology and one project on environmental protection.

The municipal people’s council asked the people’s committee to concretise management solutions and measures to fulfill the major projects as well as to set up concrete plans and programmes to realise the targets and tasks of the key programmes during the 2011-2015 period.
