Vung Tau officially recognized first grade city

Vung Tau city of the Southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has become the 11th first-grade city in Viet Nam after Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung signed a recognition decision.

Other first-grade cities are Hue, Vinh Da Lat, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, Buon Ma Thuot, Thai Nguyen, Nam Dinh and Viet Tri.

Vung Tau city, about 120km away from Ho Chi Minh City and 95km from Dong Nai province’s Bien Hoa city, has a density population of 10,161 people per kilometer square, average per-capital income of US$6,060 (four times higher than the national average rate) as well as a poverty rate of 5.3%.

A part from being a national oil and gas hub, Vung Tau is also home to beautiful landscapes, beaches and unique historical vestiges. Last year, the city welcomed four million turns of tourists and earned VND 4 trillion in revenue.

Speaking at the ceremony to announce the decision, Deputy PM Nguyen Thien Nhan said as a first grade city, Vung Tau would enjoy favorable conditions to develop sea-borne economy.

He hoped that the locality would become a big economic, cultural and tourism hub in the Southern economic region and a city worth living and a land of happiness./.
